The Distribution of Order Statistics for Discrete Random Variables with Applications to Bootstrapping
نویسندگان
چکیده
A algorithm for computing the PDF of order statistics drawn from discrete parent populations is presented, along with an implementation of the algorithm in a computer algebra system. Several examples and applications, including exact bootstrapping analysis, illustrate the utility of this algorithm. Bootstrapping procedures require that B bootstrap samples be generated in order to perform statistical inference concerning a data set. Although the requirements for the magnitude of B are typically modest, a practitioner would prefer to avoid the resampling error introduced by choosing a finite B, if possible. The part of the order-statistic algorithm for sampling with replacement from a finite sample can be used to perform exact bootstrapping analysis in certain applications, eliminating the need for replication in the analysis of a data set.

Ordered Random Variables from Discontinuous Distributions
In the absolutely continuous case, order statistics, record values and several other models of ordered random variables can be viewed as special cases of generalized order statistics, which enables a unified treatment of their theory. This paper deals with discontinuous generalized order statistics, continuing on the recent work of Tran (2006). Specifically, we show that in general neither re...
متن کاملSOME RESULTS OF MOMENTS OF UNCERTAIN RANDOM VARIABLES
Chance theory is a mathematical methodology for dealing with indeterminatephenomena including uncertainty and randomness.Consequently, uncertain random variable is developed to describe the phenomena which involveuncertainty and randomness. Thus, uncertain random variable is a fundamental concept in chance theory. This paper provides some practical quantities to describe uncertain random variable...
متن کاملBounds for CDFs of Order Statistics Arising from INID Random Variables
In recent decades, studying order statistics arising from independent and not necessary identically distributed (INID) random variables has been a main concern for researchers. A cumulative distribution function (CDF) of these random variables (Fi:n) is a complex manipulating, long time consuming and a software-intensive tool that takes more and more times. Therefore, obtaining approximations a...
متن کاملParameter Estimation in Spatial Generalized Linear Mixed Models with Skew Gaussian Random Effects using Laplace Approximation
Spatial generalized linear mixed models are used commonly for modelling non-Gaussian discrete spatial responses. We present an algorithm for parameter estimation of the models using Laplace approximation of likelihood function. In these models, the spatial correlation structure of data is carried out by random effects or latent variables. In most spatial analysis, it is assumed that rando...
متن کاملT-S FUZZY MODEL-BASED MEMORY CONTROL FOR DISCRETE-TIME SYSTEM WITH RANDOM INPUT DELAY
A memory control for T-S fuzzy discrete-time systems with sto- chastic input delay is proposed in this paper. Dierent from the common assumptions on the time delay in the existing literatures, it is assumed in this paper that the delays vary randomly and satisfy some probabilistic dis- tribution. A new state space model of the discrete-time T-S fuzzy system is derived by introducing some stocha...
